  1. NewIcons 4.1 Update

  4.    Well with all the major changes done in V4, I guess problems were to be
  5. expected :)  Fortunately, most were minor and quite easy to fix.

  9. How to install:
  10. ---------------
  11.  
  12. You must have NewIcons v4.0 installed for this update to work. Simply
  13. click on the two Update scripts in this main drawer to update the
  14. binaries and the icons, respectively.  The update_icons script will
  15. also remove a couple of obsolete deficons that made their way into the
  16. V4.0 package.
  17.  
  18. If you are using the LOW END NewIcon.library (that is, 68000 and/or 2.04
  19. users), copy the libs/LE/NewIcon.library to libs: as well.  Users of the
  20. middle-end and high-end libraries do not need to update any library.
  21.  
  22. *** If you have not installed NewIcons 4 at all yet, grab the latest
  23.     full archive of version 4.1 instead of this update.

  27. Changes since 4.0:

  30.  · LE/newicon.library was accidently requiring graphics.library V39
  31.    instead of V37, so Kickstart 2.04 users were unable to run NI4 at all.

  34.  · Icon TextMode can't work under 2.04 because pen handling was only
  35.    added in Kickstart 3.0.  So it's now disabled under 2.x. (NewIcons
  36.    and NewIconsPrefs)

  39.  · Removed some debugging output that was forgotten in CreateDefaultIcon.

  42.  · CreateDefaultIcon wouldn't properly create a disk.info file (it was
  43.    named '.info') if used from the CLI on a disk.  Also, it can now
  44.    properly handle logical names, so 'CreateDefaultIcon t:' will
  45.    properly create a Ram:T.info file.

  48.  · Fixed all the icons in Icons/Misc/Disks  and /Icons/Misc/Drawers.  The old
  49.    icon structure was corrupt, causing CopyNewIcon to crash if run from the WB.

  85. Additional notes:

  88.  - If you're not sure about the installed version of the library, click
  89.    on the logo in NewIconsPrefs.  The requester will show you what exact
  90.    version you're currently running.

  93.  - If the Installer script fails to compile, then your Installer needs
  94.    updating.  Get the newest one off Aminet, located in
  95.    util/misc/Installer-43_3.lha.

  98.  - Scalos and DOpus Magellan users should use those programs's respective
  99.    preferences editor rather than NewIconsPrefs.

  102.  - The WB crawling ants not always being properly erased is a known
  103.    problem.  We'll experiment with a possible fix in a future version.

  106.  - In the future, Kickstart 2.04 as well as 68000 support will be
  107.    dropped.  Why?  Well, I could give you many reasons, but I'll keep
  108.    it to this one: it's called "Evolution".  2.04 is over 7 years old,
  109.    while 3.1 has been available for 4 years already.

  111.    If you need more reasons to upgrade, then keep in mind that a more
  112.    up-to-date userbase will be much more attractive to current as well
  113.    as potential new developers.

  117.    former dream@step.polymtl.ca.  Also, note that the libertel.qc.ca
  118.    address is gone since almost a year now - our local Freenet lasted an
  119.    impressive three months.  Sigh.

  123.    regarding his attacks against NI in his FAQ.  Well, NewIcons V4 itself
